Because of Bethlehem’s experience and capability in modular precast construction we were awarded the precast on this medium security total precast structure in Salinas, CA. Time and money was saved by casting the modules in our precast plant and installing interior finishes and fixtures in the plant before shipping. The five sided modules were cast with cell partitions and front walls as well as front walkways where designated. After casting all finish and fixtures were installed that included precast lower bunks, upper steel bunks, lighting fixtures with conduit pre-ran, combination toilet/sink units, mirrors, coat hangers, security doors were hung, safety glazing frames installed and finish coats of paint were applied in the plant.

Bethlehem fabricated, delivered, and erected the precast used for this structure, including wall panels for the exterior, beams and columns that held up the different floors, prestressed hollowcore plank for the flooring, and ceilings, and precast pieces for the roof.

Our favorite aspect of this project was how complete the cells are when they arrive on the jobsite, saving so much time and cost for site labor. The units are simply craned and stack with grouted connections to meet seismic demands in California.
